The Project
When a no-nonsense CEO and a crafty mountain enthusiast sought to create their dream retreat, we embraced the challenge of merging their contrasting styles. Our first priority was to establish a bright, light-filled aesthetic while optimizing the layout of both floors to add necessary bathrooms, walk-in closets, a laundry room, and a gym.
The Client
Our 4 times repeat clients and empty-nesters returned to AHD to transform a dated gem into a home that served their lifestyle and needs. This dynamic couple (a CEO and a dental hygienist) desired a space that reflected their unique (and at times polar opposite!) tastes and could become a gathering space for their extensive family. They envisioned a retreat that balances sophistication with comfort, accommodating everything from quiet moments by the lake to lively gatherings with grandchildren.
Inspiration
Nestled by Bangs Lake, the home features panoramic views and a private beach. A light color palette accented with indigo and teal honors these vistas. In the bathrooms, floating vanities and exquisite stone vessel sinks offer a spa-like experience, combining luxury with functionality. Ultimately, this project embodies the harmonious blend of two distinct styles, creating a serene modern retreat.
Our Approach
A key design move was relocating the fireplace, which previously obstructed views. We installed a two-way contemporary freestanding fireplace in split-face limestone mosaic, creating a visual divide between the living and dining areas while enhancing the space. Our commitment to durability led us to select natural finishes, including custom-stained oak floors and elegant marble tiles, ensuring longevity amidst family life.
