the project
AHD completely transformed a cramped and cluttered collection of rooms into an open concept floor plan, where the whole family can feel connected. We reimagined the first floor by relocating the kitchen to a sunnier side of the home, ensuring ample natural light for their baking adventures.
We also converted a three-season porch into a bright four-season dining room and lounge with beautiful garden views, creating a cozy fireplace hang out area that has become the client’s favorite spot to relax after an intense day of work.
the client
This busy family of five, with two full-time first responders, sought a transformative change to keep life simple and organized at home so it could be easy to maintain.
The client loves to bake and also host large family gatherings, so we added a Butler’s Pantry for baking essentials. A custom millwork vitrine showcases her cherished China passed down from her late mom. The floor plan changes allowed us to also add and a much-needed Powder Room for those busy gatherings.
inspiration
The client craved a simple yet organized slower pace living style so we took inspiration from modern cottage living.
She also loves vintage items and has enjoyed collecting pieces over the years so the spaces have a layering of old and new that create a cozy familiar feeling.
our approach
Raising the ceiling height was a key design choice, adding an airy feel to the space. The contrasting chocolate wood island against the white kitchen provides a sophisticated touch without darkening the room. Maximizing natural light was essential, leading to updated and new windows throughout.
Months later, we found the home impeccably organized, reinforcing our belief that thoughtful design makes it easy to maintain order—everything has its place!
