Single Family Victorian Farmhouse Home
the project
This single-family Victorian farmhouse in Evanston, dating back to 1889, was cherished by the homeowner for its vintage elements and superior craftmanship.
The proximity to the lake and the layout were perfect for this family of four that was moving back to Chicago after a stint in Colorado, though there were design and functional elements that needed to be brought up to date.
the client
A CEO of a non-profit organization and her husband, seasoned globetrotters and collectors, invited us to craft a design that seamlessly blends their passion for vintage, their collection of unique auction pieces and their love of the outdoors with a fresh, modern aesthetic. Through our Visioning process we discovered that the client loves to cook, so a functional kitchen was key and that they were both aligned and fearless in creating a one-of-a-kind interior that brought back happy memories of their life abroad.
inspiration
Inspired by the home's Victorian Farmhouse style and the client's time in Turkey, we embraced Mediterranean motifs with modern farmhouse elements, and added vibrant colors to capture their extraordinary journey and reflect their personality.
The home tells the story of world travelers and collectors, blending vintage charm with modern functionality for a timeless, deeply personal and livable design that celebrates the client’s eclectic, one-of-a-kind collector sensibility.
our approach
Our goal was to make minimal yet high-impact strategic changes to the floor-plan to fit the client's lifestyle, investment and short timeline.
We created a new galley kitchen that maximized storage and counter-space and added a bistro table for homework-time and to offer company to the cook.
We renovated the bathrooms and other areas, and aimed to preserve authentic details that spoke to the home' history, and carefully refinished them to maintain the home’s character while outfitting it for modern living.
